Wind Surfing

Wind surfing in Weymouth and Portland has always been a popular pastime in the region and it is only fitting that the region will play host to the windsurfing events of the 2012 Olympic Games.  Portland Harbour offers near perfect conditions for both novice and expert alike.  There are numerous schools for tuition and many launch sites in Portland Harbour for those already with knowledge.

As well as Portland Harbour, there are good conditions to be had in Weymouth Bay.  Between the dates of 1st October and 31st May, the Pier Bandstand on Weymouth Seafront is an exciting and also handy location to jump the waves.  Situated just yards from The Esplanade, there is no need to drive anywhere.  You can change in the comfort of your own room and then just cross the street for your fix of exhilarating action.  Situated a short stroll from Weymouth town centre, it is an ideal spot for the ‘other half’ to get their exhilarating fix of retail therapy in the shops, if they are not surfers.  If you wish to windsurf in Weymouth Bay in the summer months, an alternative year round location is Overcombe corner, just a short five minute car journey to the East of the Hotel.
