Sailing
Weymouth and Portland are both delighted and proud to be hosting the sailing events of the 2012 London Olympics. Weymouth Bay offers some of the most exhilarating and challenging sailing waters in not only the UK but the World. Weymouth is proud to be home to many of the medal winning sailors of the 2008 Olympics and hopes very much that they can add to their medal haul in 2012. The National Sailing Academy is situated on the Chesil Beach Causeway between Weymouth and Portland and currently hosts a number of national and international regattas. If you have an interest in the sea and would like to learn to sail, Weymouth is the ideal base for you. The Esplanade is only yards from Weymouth bay, a ten minute walk from Weymouth harbour, less than a ten minute drive from Portland Harbour (Old Castle Sailing Club), a ten minute drive from the National Sailing Academy and only a few moments further to the Isle of Portland itself. All of these places and more offer you the opportunity to learn to sail or the chance to further your nautical knowledge on the open wave.
How can The Esplanade help you? Not only do we offer you the ideal location to base yourself, with forward agreement, we can offer drying facilities of wet sailing equipment. With an onsite car park, you can be out of your wet gear and in to a hot bath within a quarter of an hour. Being fully licensed, you can then treat yourself to a large gin on the balcony and watch all the other boats sail past before strolling in to town for a spot of dinner.
