Olympics 2012

The securing of the sailing events for the London 2012 Olympic Games is one of the most talked about events in the Town’s history.  This is seen by many as a chance to showcase the area’s natural beauty, excellent facilities as well as its world class sailing waters.  The RYA (see www.rya.org.uk for further information) accredits Weymouth as having the best sailing waters in Northern Europe.

Here at The Esplanade we are keen supporters of the Olympics.  Recent guests have included the German Sailing team as they start their practice and preparations for 2012.  If you are interested in making an enquiry with regard to staying with us during the Olympics, please contact us.

The National Sailing Academy on the causeway between Weymouth and Portland (see http://wpnsa.org.uk/ for further information), was one of the first Olympic Venues to be completed.  The award winning, state of the art facilities have been built from scratch and have been delivered well on time for the 2012 extravaganza.  Each year it hosts the prestigious ‘Sail for Gold Regatta’ which attracts visiting teams from all over the World and many of the World’s top sailors.  Visit http://www.weymouth.gov.uk/home.asp?sv=11 for future dates and other information regarding sailing events in Weymouth.
